Laser Skin Rejuvenation
What is skin rejuvenation?
Laser Skin Rejuvenation restores youthful, healthy looking skin. Laser skin rejuvenation is a broad subject and can encompass the following treatments.
- Fading skin imperfections caused by
- Sun
- Uneven skin tones
- Age
- Restoring the skins natural luminosity
- Improving tone, texture and tightening of the skin
- Reducing the appearance of wrinkles
- Reducing scarring, for example acne scarring
Facial skin rejuvenation has long been a highly desired aesthetic procedure and can be used in two different modalities; ablative and non-ablative, depending on the required result you want to achieve and what you are treating.
Non-ablative- This is non-invasive treatment and uses the thermal effect created by lasers to help remodel the collagen. The laser or intense pulsed light system deposits controlled burst of energy in to the dermal layers of the skin causing an increase in temperaturem whilst passing through the uppermost layer of the skin. This thermal inducement helps to stimulate collagen, which produces new collagen. The new collagen then helps to reduce skin laxity and well as improving the tone of the skin and the texture.
Ablative- This is a more invasive procedure, where the laser removes a layer of the skin with precision. The new skin cells that form during the healing process after the treatment give the skin a tighter, younger appearance on the surface. It can also be used to remove visible blemishes and pigmentation.
The advanced laser systems now on offer, allow the user to dictate the depth of ablation as well other factors; so the treatment can be specific for any given person and any given desired result.
Skin rejuvenation is usually performed on the face and neck but will work by the same principles on most areas of the body for example to reduce the appearance of older looking hands.
What Laser is best?
There are a multitude of lasers and intense pulsed light systems on offer to provide ablative and non-ablative treatments. It is recommended to use a leading manufacturer for your laser purchase as you need to be sure the treatments and lasers are the safest possible on the market.
It is also worth remember that if you want to achieve the best results then a combination laser is advisable allowing you to treat ablative and non-ablative. This ensures you can tailor make any procedure to the given client. You might therefore choose to look at a dual-wavelength laser, perhaps one offering you Nd:YAG for non-ablative treatments on all skin types and Erbium:YAG for ablative treatments.
The combination treatments are shown in applications such as the Fotona 4D face lift and the Alma clear lift.
The Fotona uses both Nd:YAG and Er:YAG to perform a laser face lift. Please see Fotona 4d.
What to expect from the treatments?
A series of treatments will be scheduled approximately 4 weeks apart, with the number of session will be dictated by what result required and the area being treated. Each session will generally be around 30 minutes long again depending on what is to be treated.
